FRANK DEAN TONY

These are the “big” ones! Johnny played sax with Frank Sinatra, and after an inspiring night in Vegas, he went to his hotel room. This song came to him, words and music complete, and that was the beginning of “Nothing But the Best.” Frank loved the song and recorded it quickly in two takes! It was released as a single record in 1962, and then became the title song of his 1998 compilation CD Nothing But the Best, commemorating the 10-year anniversary of Frank’s passing. Many others went on to record it as well. Hear their versions on “Take Your Pick – Nothing But the Best.”

Johnny worked with Dean Martin’s pianist, who gave him a shot to present his tunes to the iconic crooner. Johnny actually sang these songs himself to Dean!  As Dean heard and picked them, he said “IN.”

Tony Bennett got a hold of this song from his manager and recorded it in 1964 in NY. It was released in Italy but never in the States until just recently. It is featured on the birthday CD compilation Tony Bennett Celebrates 90.
